Russia: $100 million yacht discovered belonging to Dmitry Medvedev
Russian investigative journalism website Proekt has discovered that Dmitry Medvedev, former president of Russia and deputy chairman of the Security Council, owns the 74-meter yacht worth $100 million.
Dmitry Medvedev’s entire family uses his yacht, which has a helipad, a personal office and a special communications system, and is called Vselenaya (“Universe”). In fact, in the domestic waters of the Russian Federation, it is accompanied by Russian warships, as the journalists claim.
The “Proekt” website, claiming that this particular yacht is used by Dmitry Medvedev, cites Turkish observer Yoruk Isik, who monitors ships plying the Bosphorus, Turkish observers of the NGO Nordic Monitor as well as a source among yacht brokers.
Finally, a marina employee in the city of Sochi, where the boat is currently moored and guarded, describes it as “Medvedev’s yacht” and “government”, the report states.
Journalists believe that the yacht was bought by billionaire Igor Yusufov. The owner of the boat is not listed while the boat was built by the Dutch office Damen Yachting in 2018, and is registered to the offshore company Southerner Ltd of the Cayman Islands.
“Proekt” points out, citing information from the specialized service VesselFinder, that in July 2020, at the height of the coronavirus pandemic, the yacht “Universe” was sailing in the Mediterranean waters with its transponder disabled. Menvedev’s son Ilya and Igor Yusufov’s son Maxim were on board the boat, according to journalists.
In March 2017 Alexei Navalny and his team in an investigation they published about Dmitry Menvedev, mentioned Dmitry Menvedev’s luxury properties. According to the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK) Medvedev owns the yacht Fotinia worth about 10 million dollars.
