The former owner of Germany’s Wadan Yards, Andrei Burlakov, has died in a shooting in a Moscow restaurant.
The Russian’s death bore the hallmarks of a contract hit, the Moscow Times reported.
Burlakov had been suspected of using $56m in embezzled funds to buy the two yards in Germany and one in Ukraine from Aker Yards in 2008.
Wadan went bust in 2009 and Burlakov’s FLC West sold to fellow Russian Vitaly Yusufov, who renamed the company Nordic Yards.
Burlakov, who had undergone heart surgery recently, died after an unidentified attacker fired five bullets at him and his common-law wife and business partner Anna Etkina on Thursday.
He was hit in the left shoulder and pronounced dead of a heart attack in hospital.
